Mixtape! Sam Adams – Party Records (No DJ)

Sam Adams is such a hate-it-or-love-it figure. His remix of Asher Roth’s “I Love College” brought him huge popularity, while alleged scams (Scam Adams was a popular nickname) of buying his own music on iTunes to make it more popular brought a lot of hate. Plus, mixtape covers like this aren’t helping prove the case that he’s not a complete tool. Regardless, I like the direction he’s going in with this electronic rap mixtape. Some of the slower songs sound kind of dumb, but the more fast paced, intense tracks like “Some Chords” will definitely get the crowd moving at parties. Also, the whole thing isn’t electronic for those who don’t like the genre. He goes over a few beats like Gucci’s ever-popular “Lemonade.”
I’m also kind of upset that he had DJ Whoo Kid present this mixtape… dude’s annoying as fuck. It’s the absolute worst when I’m a minute into the song and he finds it absolutely necessary to go “AYO! PLAY THAT BACK!” and restart the whole damn thing. Once you reach Sam Adams’ level of popularity, is there even a point in having a DJ sponsor the project? Does DJ Whoo Kid even have fans to advertise this to? Maybe it’s my lack of knowledge in how the hip hop game works on the business side, but I just find it annoying.
